Two fund classes recover from June negatives
Structured finance and corporate distressed funds proved the top performers in Creditflux’s index in July, with both turning around negative segment performances in June. The average structured finance fund netted a 1.06% return, slightly ahead of the 0.83% recorded for corporate distressed funds. However, they were the standout segments in what was otherwise a middling month across the board.
While some two-thirds of the index posted gains, the average gain for an individual fund came to just under 0.12%. However, a significant number of CLO funds bettered a return of 1% for the month, making up eight entries in the overall top 10 fund performers, including the leading two offerings.
Notably, after topping the index in June with an average return of 2.42%, credit fofs fell to the bottom of the pecking order in July, declining 2.08%.
For the year to date, corporate distressed funds are displaying a clear lead in overall segment performance, returning 6.14%. That puts them well ahead of credit multi-strategy funds, which are averaging 2.49%, and UCITS credit, at 2.04%.
