Blackstone sees exit of
key European CLO leader
Blackstone’s senior European CLO portfolio manager Alex Leonard departed at the end of June. Dublin-based Leonard was employed by Blackstone for almost 15 years. He joined when it acquired his previous firm, Harbourmaster Capital Management.
Alex Leonard: until last year, he served as Blackstone’s head of European liquid credit. In June 2025, Blackstone announced that Laura Coady would join from Jefferies as its new global head of CLOs and European head of liquid credit strategies.

Dogged by low distributions
Private equity barons have been holding tightly to their deals. And that’s meant there’s little cash to return to institutional investors.
At SuperReturn in Berlin, the annual confab of the private capital community, in meeting after meeting these patient investors yet again queried private equity managers — and increasingly private credit managers, too — about when they might get their money back.
Little wonder then, that the panel on secondaries was popular. Tapping the funds secondary market to generate liquidity for LPs has emerged as an alternative to traditional M&A exits.
While distributed to paid-in capital (DPI) ratios remain stubbornly low, there was at least something investors could get their hands on at the InterContinental Hotel in Berlin: SuperReturn offered the latest in doggy attire.
A founder of a major CLO shop, analysts at investment banks and your correspondent all joined one of the longest queues ever at a conference for the opportunity to snag a gilet for their puppy.
