Sailing on in high seas

The first quarter of 2026 will go down as one of the most turbulent periods for financial markets. Heavy weather has been stirred up by the prospects of the US invading Greenland; artificial intelligence roiling software firms; private credit grabbing daily headlines; and, most shockingly, the US-Israel-Iran war that has shuttered the all-important Strait of Hormuz and sent energy prices soaring.
In this issue, we look at the impact on credit. How are private credit CLOs responding to worries regarding their heavy exposure to software loans? What should private credit funds do when investors ask to pull their cash out?
We also report on the upside of volatility — because deals are getting done, some software loans are rebounding, and safer portions of the market are still seeing inflows.
